Crayons

They aren`t just for colouring! When I saw my sister-in-law last week, I noticed she had this gorgeous painting in her sons room that she had done, using melted Crayons. She had seen the idea on Pinterest and gave it a try. I loved how it turned out and thought the boys would love doing it, so we gave it a try too!

First thing first – you have to sort through the Crayons and group them by colour. We used 4 packs of 24 Crayons, and did not use the browns, blacks, whites or greys. Make sure you have enough to fit on your canvas, by lining the canvas up against the crayons. Once you’ve done that, glue the Crayons onto the Canvas – I just used Elmer’s.

Let the glue dry, and then it is time to melt!! I bought a Heat Gun to use – you can pick one up from the paint department of any hardware store for $10-$15. But if you don’t want to spend that $$ try using a hair-dryer, but I should warn you that it will probably be a little more messy.

The boys were a big help, and it was a lot of fun. The only thing I would say to watch carefully when doing this, is that I didn’t have enough contrast in the blues I used, and so that side of the canvas just looks very dark. So make sure you get some very light blues in there too!

VoilĂ !
