It’s the Little Things {the art of resolutions}
As I’ve mentioned before – I don’t do resolutions… but I do want to resolve myself to get back into painting. I love art, but I can sometimes go months without drawing or painting anything. I found my way to art about 4 years ago quite accidentally, when our son got sick…
When Xander got sick, there was always something to worry about. No matter how hard I tried, I could never turn off my mind.
Then I picked up a paint brush, and a funny thing happened – I couldn’t worry. There is something about the part of the brain you use to paint… it doesn’t really allow for a whole lot of deep thinking at the same time.
And so I painted, and painted and painted – every chance I got. It was the only time I wasn’t consumed with fear.
Slowly but surely he got better and is now in remission – thank God. So I don’t need art the way I used to, but I still love it! Whenever I find the time to get back into it, I can’t remember why I ever stopped.
So I just finished a sketch for my Dad’s birthday of his 5 grandkids. Ethan keeps telling me that I made him look funny – he says he looks like an alien! I kind of see what he means (he is the middle boy) but I can’t figure out how to fix it. Oh well, I am more of an abstract painter – soI think I did pretty good for my first time sketching people, alien or not:)
Now I just need to get on the painting I promised my Mum. I’ve decided I’m going to do it as a watercolor – but I’ve never done that. So I need to start watching some YouTube videos fast. Here is the ink outline of my parent’s house in Barbados that I finished up last night. I love their house, it is everything a house in the Caribbean should be, for example the dining room in outside on the porch and the picture is taken from the pool area. I love going to visit!
I am going to be a very busy girl for the foreseeable future! And I’m so excited about it. I love art, and I’m resolved to stick with it:)
