Cake-mare!
I, the semi-professional caker, decided to make my Mum her favourite cake for her 60th birthday, a Walnut Coffee Torte. I brought the stuff I’d need down with me from Canada, incase I couldn’t find it here. I planned ahead because I really wanted to do this for her.
Well, it totally FLOPPED. I forgot (don’t ask me how) to check that it was done before I took it out of the oven. So when I went to ice it, and stacked the layer on top of each other, the uncooked cake came pouring out! Then I couldn’t seperate the layer because they were bound together by the icing – so I stuck it back in the oven whole:)
Then when I took the cake out, the centre of the cake flopped so I had to fill in the middle with icing to make the cake look level:) Normally I just place whole Walnuts around the cake for decoration (as in the banner pic). But I needed to find a way to mascaraed the icing disaster – so I crushed the Walnuts and covered the whole cake. It actually looked pretty good – until we cut into it and all the icing in the centre came pouring out of the middle!
I blame it on the heat… it is just too hot here for me to think straight! That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it:)
