It’s The Little Things

It’s been a while since I linked up with Lindsay for an ‘It’s the Little Things’ post, but right now this post is a must!

It is sometimes so easy to take your life for granted. I am certainly guilty of that. But the month of February has made me realise just how lucky I am.

Earlier this month a family friend lost his 3yr battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). I don’t know if you know much about the disease, but I can’t think of a worse disease to die from. As your muscles weaken, you lose the ability to walk and move your arms, and eventually you are no longer able to contract your lungs so you are unable to breath.

Even though the course of the disease sounds so hard – the hardest part of the disease to me is that there is no cure, nothing you can do to prolong your life. Once you are diagnosed, you just have to sit and wait for your muscles to atrophy. There is no hope, nothing to keep your spirits alive.

I have lost people I have loved to Cancer, and that was horrible. But at least with Cancer, you feel like if you fight hard enough – you might have a chance. But to have that part of the equation removed – to have to just wait to die… It just breaks my heart, for him & his family. He was only 41.

My uncle has been battling Lung Cancer and has been fighting a great fight. But the poor guy has had more obstacles to face in this battle than anyone should have to overcome.

An acquaintance of mine lost her mother to Cancer this month. A girlfriend of mine is dealing with her 4yr old son having heart issues, along with a whole other pile of stuff

If all these things going on around me don’t make me stop and take stock of my wonderful life, then I don’t know what will.

Here are the little things that I appreciated about my life this week:

A son who thinks he’s Max, the little boy in the movie Real Steel. He has been walking around the house in this vest all week, even though it is -1 outside, because he wants to look like Max. He has had me video him dancing like Max and boxing like Atom at least 30 times this week:)

Another son who is healthy at the moment! And who has the most creative mind – he sees an orange & a straw and gets a bright idea! But then can’t figure out for the life of him, why no juice comes out when he sucks:)

A husband who will let his sons put a princess crown on his head – just to see them smile!

A mother who spent most of her visit on the ground in this position, playing cards with my sons.

And a father who plays with my kids every chance he gets.

I have a family that I love, and who loves me. That’s is actually a not so little thing:)

Have a great weekend everyone!
