About
My name is Bridget. I am a stay at home mom with 2 beautiful little boys and I have a part-time job, which I do from home thanks to the genius of the Internet! I am married to a great guy (and tech support for this site:) Alex. We live together in the ‘Great White North’ of Canada, about an hour outside of Toronto.
I was born and raised in the warm sunshine and blue waters of the Caribbean. My dad is Barbadian and my mom is American, so when I finished high school, I went away to the US (to Indiana, where my mom’s family is) for university. I obtained my BS in Restaurant, Hotel, Institution & Tourism Management from Purdue University in 2000.
As soon as I graduated, I moved back to Barbados to get away from the cold and snow of the Mid-West! I then met and, in August 2001, married Alex, who is also from Barbados. We had both of our sons while living there; Alexander (who we call Xander), in 2004 and Ethan in 2007.
I went back to work full-time after the birth of each child, as the Marketing Manager for a tour company in Barbados. Although going back to work was not something I wanted to do, I was lucky enough to have help at home to watch the kids, clean the house and cook the meals – and that part was SWEET!
Unfortunately our eldest son, Xander was sick from birth. After many hospitalizations and trips overseas to hospitals in the US & Canada he was diagnosed with an Autoimmune Disease in 2007. A rare, but possible part of his illness is complete organ failure, and while the medical care in Barbados is good, the hospital did not have the equipment necessary to keep him alive if that should happen, so we had to move. Luckily my husband found a job here – so, even though my island girl body physically rejects any temperatures under 75’F – we now we live in Canada!
Since moving here I have been home with our kids full-time and the ‘help’ I had in Barbados with the kids, house and meals is nowhere in sight! And while there is a definite possibility that I could lose my mind most days, I absolutely love being home with my kids. Being home has also afforded me the time to find that I have a passion for abstract painting and crafts of all kinds.
So this blog is about my attempt to settle into a new place, while working from home with 2 demanding boys, and the fun things we get up to in our spare time. Hope you enjoy it!
